Fulbright Scholar Program

Fulbright Scholar Awards comprise the bulk of awards offered and include opportunities for professionals, artists, and scholars at all career levels. Location and eligibility vary across all awards, and some awards may be restricted to certain career levels or types of scholars. This information is outline in the award description.

A program of the U.S. Department of State, the Fulbright Specialist Program is a unique opportunity for U.S. academics and established professionals to engage in short-term, project-based exchanges at host institutions across the globe.

The Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence (S-I-R) Program is a unique Fulbright Scholar Program initiative that is driven by U.S. institutions of higher education curriculum and teaching needs. Through the S-I-R Program, institutions host a scholar from outside of the United States for a semester or full academic year to teach courses, assist in curriculum development, guest lecture, develop study abroad/exchange partnerships and engage with the campus and the local community. S-I-Rs work across departments and curricula in a variety of ways to widely enhance or expand an existing international program, develop new world area studies programs, add an international dimension to existing coursework or provide an opportunity for American students to learn about a particular world region or country.

The Fulbright Outreach Lecturing Fund (OLF) showcases American excellence in higher education by supporting short-term travel grants for current Fulbright Visiting Scholars already in the U.S. to visit additional U.S. institutions. This introduces Fulbrighters to a variety of educational approaches and American audiences and helps expand the reach of the Fulbright Program. 

The OLF awards short-term travel grants of at least $1500 to support current Fulbright Visiting Scholars for short-term visits (2-5 days). As scholars are responsible for making their own travel arrangements, the program encourages host institutions to assist scholars with arranging lodging and local transit on site.
