Internationalize your courses at UMD

UMD’s educational mission is to “graduate lifelong learners, leaders, and global citizens.” In order to support academic units in meeting this mission, a number of resources are available:

• As part of the American Council on Education’s Internationalization Lab activities, UMD developed competencies for globally engaged citizens. These competencies can be adapted for individual courses and map to UMD Student Learning Outcomes.
• The Internationalizing Teaching and Learning Faculty Cohorts provide faculty the opportunity to develop an internationalized sense of “academic self,” identify global learning outcomes for their courses, expand their teaching strategies, and develop course materials, activities and assessments.
• The Toolkit for Educating Globally Competent Citizens provides resources to faculty members to internationalize their courses.
• The GPSA (Global Programs and Strategies Alliance) offers additional resources for internationalizing the curriculum and campus and Internationalizing Teaching and Learning
• The COIL website explains how faculty and students can engage in Collaborative Online International Learning.
• Consider developing a Faculty-led Study Abroad program to enrich the curriculum and offer new opportunities to students.
